Overview[]
The Destroyer is a unit that is released in the 4.5 Patch and can be built at the Dry Dock.
It is one of the more combat oriented Naval units, and functions best when screened by more durable units such as the Battleship Raptor-Class, Battleship Mammoth-Class or the Buoy.
It is perhaps one of the best, if not the best, unit to deal with Submarines which requires no or participation in Boss Strikes. Its deck gun can damage or destroy low-health opponents, such as severely wounded warships.
The first attack, the Targeted Shell, has a fast reload of 1 turn. Coupled with four shots, it can finish off opponents reliably. The ability to hit aerial targets at a high critical chance is useful for knocking planes out of the sky. It is also reasonably competent against heavily-wounded surface targets.
The second attack, the Dual Shell, is similar to the Trooper's Double Shot attack, except it has its own ammunition. It can be used to attack high-dodge or high-health targets, where the two shots enable it to hit more nimble targets more reliably and deal more damage to high-health targets. However, it carries a crippling 5-turn reload, as it expends all of its ammunition when attacking. This also means that a Destroyer can put up to three shots into a single target within two turns.
The Depth Charge attack is the most powerful attack available. Despite a 1-round prep-time and a lengthy 6-round reload, it can wreck certain naval units with ease, especially since many submarine targets have vulnerabilities. Coupled with its modest durability and the fact it does not take as much
damage in comparison to larger warships, it is a credible answer to battles on the sea.
However, it is less durable than other battleships in service, and pales in terms of damage-dealing capacity. The presence of Destroyer allows damage dealers to deal damage to surface opponents while the Destroyer can focus on aerial, submarine and heavily-wounded targets.
